TikTok isn’t usually the place I’d turn to for advice on my love life – then again, with my well meaning single mates, it’s often a case of the blind leading the blind!

So perhaps I need to be open to dating solutions being found on social media! I can’t keep up with the latest trends online and I have no idea what dance everyone is doing (isn’t this TikTok for people under 25?), but when I heard about a new trend that was having a positive impact, I was all ears.

The “lucky girl syndrome” recently took off on the platform and is essentially the young person’s form of manifestation – the idea that when people see themselves as lucky, in turn (they claim) good and positive things happen to them.

It’s applied to all areas of life, but my interest piqued when it came to women thinking themselves into positive dating experiences and relationships.

The concept has been around since the ’60s and was known as the “law of assumption” – that you will get what you want if you assume that you will.

Relationship coach John Kenney says, “If you have an idea of what you want from a person in a relationship and then focus on those things, you’ll likely meet people who meet those needs. Your brain will be seeking people out for you, but it’s up to you to take action.”

Those are some wise words, even if you don’t quite believe that the “universe will deliver”, it makes sense to me that if you take time to think about what you truly want in a relationship and the type of person you’d like to be in one with, then you can be laser- focused on seeking that out.

But like with all things dating, you’ve got to be in it to win it, so I think when it comes to love it’s a combination of knowing what you want, never giving up, and just a little bit of luck.
