Vegetation for the kitchen

Not only do plants lift your mood and create a relaxed atmosphere, they also help to remove pollutants.

A peace lily is renowned for its air-purifying qualities, so it's a popular choice for the kitchen.

Aloe Vera is also handy to have nearby when cooking. The gel in the leaves instantly cools any nasty burns.

Greenery for the bathroom

Being in nature has been proven to reduce stress, so what better way to relax than with a soak among an oasis of green? Ferns, orchids and tropical plants love humidity, so will flourish in the bathroom as long as there's enough natural light. Aim to keep the compost moist, but wait until it's almost dried out before re-watering.

Succulents for the living room

For bright, sunny rooms succulents and cacti need little watering, so are perfect as a display or an accent on a sunny windowsill. If you have a pet, the spider plant is non-toxic to animals. Short on space? Try hanging pots for a '70s boho vibe. Place greenery on shelves, but make sure you give them space to grow, especially trailing varieties.

Flowering plants for your bedroom

For a better night's sleep, the sansevieria (snake plant) releases oxygen at night, helping you to breathe easier. Lavender is usually an outdoor-plant, but its sleep-aiding qualities means it's beneficial to have indoors. Just pop it in a south-facing window and inhale the scent before bed.
