Becoming a member of the British royal family does not only involve tea and elegant dresses. For example, Meghan Markle will spend six months in training to learn all the protocols of her new status. But even before marriage, having a relationship with a prince involves challenges. Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend, knows it very well.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Bonas talked about her new role in the theater as Sonia Orwell, the wife of writer George Orwell. Some people believed that Sonia had only been married to him because of his fame.
The interviewer asked the actress if she could understand how her character could feel, considering that she had a relationship with someone as popular as Prince Harry, to which she replied that one of the most difficult things is when people are quick to judge.
"Especially in this country, I find that people very quickly put you in a box or in a corner," she said. "It's incredibly frustrating, especially in the industry where I work. But that's how things are. It's defending your position and saying, 'Actually, no, this is what I am and this is what I want to do.' And something similar happened to Sonia, but obviously in a different context," she said.
Meghan Markle also suffered when her relationship with Harry began. The Prince even had to issue a press release to defend her from the negative and racist comments his now-wife received, as well as the harassment that the actress's family faced.
Cressida Bonas and Prince Harry were together for two years and separated in 2014. Cressida attended the royal wedding on May 19 as a sign of friendship and to give the couple their best wishes.
