The judges and viewers worldwide have spoken and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa was crowned the 2017 Miss Universe.
The 22-year-old beauty pageant contestant, who is both fluent in English and Afrikaans, was named the "Most Beautiful Girl in the Universe" after 1st runner-up Miss Colombia and 2nd runner-up Miss Jamaica.
With her radiant dark features, flawless performance, and remarkable answers in the questions round, it's easy to see why Demi-Leigh is our new queen.

1. She's the 2nd winner in 39 years

She's the second Miss Universe winner from her country. The first was Margaret Gardiner, who was crowned Miss Universe in 1978.

Prior to getting the crown, Demi-Leigh graduated from North-West University with a business management degree.
3. Her biggest inspiration is her half-sister

"My half-sister was born without a cerebellum and is completely disabled," she stated in the Miss Universe blog. "She is my biggest motivator and inspiration because her situation makes me realize how special life is and I always want to work twice as hard, enjoy life twice as much so that I can enjoy it for her as well. Therefore each experience I encounter is that much more special."
4. She's a rookie in the Beauty Pageant world

Believe it or not, Nel-Peters began her pageantry career while competing in the Miss South Africa 2017 competition. And look at her now, queen of all queens!
5. She's a dog lover!

Scouting through her Instagram, we discovered that Demi-Leigh indeed has dogs and it's totes adorbz!
6. She's teaching women to defend themselves
After a horrible incident where she was carjacked at gunpoint, Demi-Leigh kicked off her campaign "Unbreakable" to train women about self-defense in various situations.

As Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh was given the opportunity to represent her country in both Miss Universe and Miss World but she couldn't do so due to both events happening at the same time. She opted to participate in Miss Universe.
